Jack Steward started to play on the BREAKAWAY U14 and won 5 state titles. Jack went to South Torrance High and to Notre Dame University. This is the 4th Breakaway in the MLS (Ty Maurin /Gon Lugo/UCLA/Dallas/ Brian Roberts,Damien/Yale/ Kansas/Michael Irush/Birgminham/LMU/ Colorado and the 5th pro player Michael Garciaparra/Bosco Tech) in the MLB with the Seattle Mariners (out of high school). Rene Gomez (Azusa/PCC/ Breakaway ) was trying out with Chivas USA. Kevin Ara who played for me as a youth with the Celtics (Upland High and Harvard) was signed with DC United and traded this year to Real Salt Lake City. Thanks to John Palazzola for putting together one of the finest youth teams in the USA. There is a possibility for two more in 2006 John Davis at UCSB. He has one more season for the Gauchos (NCAA Finalist) and Melendez at LMU.
